Avarekai palya / Flat beans curry

Inredients:
Avarekai: 1/2 kg
Onions: 1 medium sized finely chopped
Green chillies: 4-5 nos
Garlic: 1 pods
Mustard seeds: tbs
Cumin seeds:1/2 tbs
Urad Dal: 1/2 tbs
Masala powder:1 tbs
Turmeric powder: 1/2 tbs
Curry leaves- 1 string
Coriander leaves- 2 strings finely chopped
Dry coconut powder: 2 tbs
Roasted peanut powder: 2 tbs(optional)
Oil to saute
Salt to taste

Method:

  • Cut the avarekai by triming the edges half way through and pull all the way to take out the string like thing on both sides. Do the same for the other side. Follow the same process for other flat beans. Then cut into 1/2 inch pieces.
  • Heat 3 tbs of oil in a wok, temper with mustard seeds n when it starts to splutter add urad dal, cumin seeds n garlic saute well. When garlic turns light brown add curry leaves, chopped onions, green chillies n season with salt as per ur taste, mix them well. When onions are fried add turmeric powder along with the masala powder.
  • After 2 min add the chopped avarekai, stir them well in the onion season n cook it for 15 min with closed lid. Occasionally keep mixing it to avoid over heating. If you want more gravy then add water n cook.
  • Once the avarekai is cooked add dry coconut powder or roasted peanut powder n cook for another 5 min on medium heat n turn off the heat.
Garnish with coriander leaves n serve it hot with any Indian breads or as side dish with cur rice!!
